Practice Details:

Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital is recruiting for a Canadian Royal College certified General Pathologist, or board certified anatomic and clinical pathologist (AP/CP), for a three-person practice.

Our group performs approximately 8500 surgical pathology cases per year. Primary responsibilities will include general surgical pathology and cytology case sign out and clinical pathology case sign out (e.g. peripheral blood smears, bone marrow biopsies) as well as transfusion medicine and local laboratory oversight. There is also the opportunity for medical directorship of rural area labs. Autopsies are not currently performed at this site.

The ideal candidate will have recent clinical pathology experience, with strong skills in surgical pathology and laboratory diagnostics, including transfusion medicine and hematopathology. The candidate will need to be comfortable with independent practice in a small group environment. Daily quality assurance videoconference is done with other Interior Health pathologists, to share interesting or difficult cases. Intramural or extramural consultation for challenging or unusual cases is readily available, including outside consultation at academic medical center sites in Vancouver. This position requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to relate well with laboratory staff, clinicians, and administration.

  • Eligible for Fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC)
  • Coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association is mandatory
  • Eligible for licensure with CPSBC

Compensation:
Estimated Gross Income

Provincially negotiated grid level. Estimated Gross Income: Upper end of provincially negotiated grid; ~$385,000 for 210 days of clinical service


RSA Incentives

Recruitment incentive: $15,000, prorated for physicians working less than full time
Relocation: $9,000 if moving within BC, $12,000 within Canada, and $15,000 from outside Canada
Fee premium: 11.48%
Annual retention fee: $17,790
RCME funding: $600 for up to 2 years in Trail, $3,600 during your 3rd and 4th year, and $6,600 after 4 years, in addition to the Doctors of BC CME funds.

The above numbers are based on a full-time position and may be prorated for physicians working less than full time. Rural incentives are subject to change and current rates are confirmed at the time of offer.
