Practice Details:
Join a collaborative mental health team, community general practitioners, and a child psychiatrist—all dedicated to developing innovative approaches to meet psychiatric care needs across the lifespan.
Your income will be primarily fee-for-service, with some sessional opportunities available—and no overhead costs. Your office will be located in the mental health facility, managed by Interior Health.
You’ll be part of a dedicated team that includes social workers, therapists, and outreach nurses. Shared goals focus on meeting community needs through innovative, integrated care models and collaborating with family practitioners to develop and implement a patient medical home model. This approach aligns with Interior Health’s Mental Health and Substance Use Program, as well as provincial and federal healthcare priorities.
In collaboration with local family practitioners, the successful candidate will also provide urgent support to Cariboo Memorial Hospital’s ER and the Gateway Crisis Stabilization Unit—an alternative to hospital-based care that offers crisis response, stabilization services, and referral for follow-up care. Additional opportunities exist to work with Indigenous populations. Tele-psychiatry support is available from psychiatrists based in Kamloops.
The CMH redevelopment project is well underway. is a $366.5 million investment that will feature a new mental health and substance use inpatient unit with eight single-occupancy rooms and an adjacent patient seclusion room. Over the course of the project, the hospital will also see an expanded emergency department with 23 treatment spaces, a medical-surgical inpatient unit with 36 beds, an upgraded maternity and women's health unit, expanded oncology and ambulatory care services, and a new academic space for the UBC Faculty of Medicine.
We welcome participation in quality improvement projects, program development initiatives, and service provision in remote Indigenous communities, either in person or via telehealth. There are also opportunities to engage in community education activities. Additionally, UBC teaching opportunities are available through the UBC Department of Psychiatry.
For those interested, Leadership Development Opportunities are available with Interior Health’s NAVIG8 Program. The NAVIG8 Emerging Physician Leaders Program is a comprehensive leadership development program designed specifically for physicians to address the practical leadership knowledge, behaviours and skills that high potential, emerging medical leaders require to step into leadership roles early in their careers.
