Fantastic opportunity for an Adult Psychiatrist in a welcoming rural community setting with terrific lifestyle opportunities! Join a collaborative mental health team, community general practitioners, and a child psychiatrist—all committed to developing innovative approaches to meet needs for psychiatric services across the lifespan. Work is underway for expansion at CMH to include an 8 bed inpatient psychiatry unit, scheduled to open in 2024. Come be a part of the excitement!
This is a new position so you can tailor your practice to your specific interests. Your income would be primarily fee for service. Some sessions are available. And no overhead! Your office will be in the mental health facility which is managed by Interior Health. Your team includes social workers, therapists, outreach nurses, and a recently hired general psychiatrist. Our primary shared goals include meeting community needs using innovative integrated care models, and collaborating with family practitioners to develop and implement a patient medical home model, consistent and aligned with the IHA Mental Health and Substance Use Program and with Ministry and Government priorities. The successful candidate, in collaboration with local family practitioners, will also provide urgent support to the Caribou Memorial Hospital’s ER and the Gateway Crisis Stabilization Unit, an assessment and short term intervention alternative to hospital-based care which addresses crisis response, stabilization services and referral for follow up services. There are also opportunities to work with indigenous populations. Tele-psychiatry support provided by psychiatrists located in Kamloops.
We would welcome participation in quality improvement projects, program development activities, provision of service in remote Aboriginal communities in-person or via telehealth, and, engagement in community education activities. UBC teaching opportunities also exist through the UBC Department of Psychiatry.

Relocation: $9,000 - $15,000 based on move location
Fee premium of 12.32%

Cariboo Memorial Hospital:
Cariboo Memorial Hospital is a 28 bed hospital offering emergency, an intensive care unit, operating rooms, medical-surgical and obstetrical units, and ambulatory care services. Other services at the hospital include stress testing, lab and diagnostic imaging (including echo and CT scanning), out-patient hemodialysis and a five-bed psychiatric crisis stabilization unit. There is 24-hour general surgery and obstetrical specialist coverage, full-time radiology, and a pediatric specialist. There are also visiting ophthalmology, rheumatology and psychiatry specialists.
