Discover this incredible hospitalist opportunity at Vernon Jubilee Hospital (VJH), where you’ll flourish as an indispensable member of our dynamic and collegial team. Immerse yourself in the breathtaking beauty of the North Okanagan while extending compassionate patient care.
You will play a vital part as a core member of our team at VJH, overseeing the general medical care of adults and collaborating on the management of surgical and psychiatric cases. You’ll find this role both stimulating and diverse in its case mix. It’s important to note that this position does not involve coverage for Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics, or ICU/code blue patients.
As you care for our patients, you’ll collaborate with a range of specialized departments, including Anesthesia, General Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Psychiatry, Radiology, Urology, and Oncology. When advanced treatment is necessary, you’ll play a pivotal role in coordinating tertiary referrals to Kelowna. Our hospital appreciates a devoted team of caring allied healthcare professionals who are always here to support you on-site.
Caring for acutely ill individuals and their loved ones is a key aspect of this role, highlighting the need for your remarkable clinical and communication skills. Collaborating with fellow healthcare professionals, including discharge planning experts, community resources, and family physicians, is essential and will require your strong teamwork. We rely on electronic physician documentation to ensure clear plans, smooth patient handovers, and efficient rounding.

Hours of work:
When you're on day shifts, you'll care for 15–18 patients during your 9-hour shift from 0800 to 1700. On night shifts, you'll be on-site for 8 hours and then provide overnight call from home.
On call requirements:
Throughout regular hospital hours, you'll receive APP rates, but during overnight call, your income is exclusively from MOCAP funding. Being available for after-hours call is a requirement, typically involving 3-4 evening shifts or night calls per month.

As a full-time hospitalist, earn a guaranteed income of $314,795 under the APP clinical service contract, in addition to MOCAP level 2 for overnight call (from home).
Additional Incentives
For a full-time position, we offer up to $9,000 in assistance if moving within BC, up to $12,000 within Canada, and up to $15,000 from outside Canada. Please note incentives are subject to change and current rates are confirmed at the time of offer.

Vernon Jubilee Hospital (VJH) is a 196-bed facility and a beacon of healthcare excellence in Vernon, British Columbia. Serving as the primary hospital in the North Okanagan region, VJH provides comprehensive acute care, along with advanced medical services and technology.
The unveiling of the Polson Tower marked a significant expansion, boosting outpatient services and introducing specialized units for maternity, pediatrics, intensive and coronary care. Subsequent growth saw the addition of medical inpatient facilities, a fifth operating theatre, and a sophisticated MRI. The hospital’s future looks even brighter with the planned construction of a 44 single-occupancy room psychiatric unit by 2029. This development aims to offer improved and personalized mental health resources.
