Practice Details:

We seek an Adult Psychiatrist to join our expanding team of physicians at Royal Inland Hospital (RIH)/Kamloops Mental Health and Substance Use (KMHSU) Team in Kamloops, British Columbia. This position will be instrumental in providing ambulatory and inpatient psychiatric services to the complex severe and persistent mental illness population including those with major mental illness and substance use. Although areas of responsibility can be tailored to the personal interests and expertise of the successful individual, desirable qualifications/skill set includes psychiatric assessment and pharmacological management of complex illness, psychosocial rehabilitation, psychoeducation of clients and members of their circle of care, integration with physical health and wellness and a harm reduction/recovery focused approach. You will be working with a highly collaborative and innovative multidisciplinary team to advocate for and optimize outcomes of an often-overlooked population, striving to eliminate health care inequities.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to all levels of learner, from peer through medical undergraduates, postgraduate Family Practice residents and the soon to be launched University of British Columbia (UBC) – Okanagan Psychiatry program. (July 2023) An academic appointment with the Faculty of Medicine, UBC will be facilitated. RIH administration supports opportunities for leadership roles and development.

Qualifications:
  • Eligible for Fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC)
  • Doctorate in Medicine
  • Eligible for licensure with CPSBC; Coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association is mandatory

Compensation:
Estimated Gross Income

$350,000 - $400,000, plus MOCAP level 2

Royal Inland Hospital:

The Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) is a 273-bed facility that serves as the referral centre for approximately 250,000 people, and is located in the Thompson Cariboo Shuswap Health Service Area. As one of two Interior Health tertiary referral hospitals and Level 1 Trauma Centres, RIH receives over 250 major trauma and 72,000 ED visits per year.

The Phil and Jennie Gaglardi Tower opened at RIH in the summer of 2022. Among other services, the tower includes child and adolescent mental-health and substance-use inpatient unit as well as a 30 bed general psychiatric unit (20 general and 10 high observation beds and 3 seclusion beds).
