Practice Details:
PSYCHIATRY – 3-6 MONTH LOCUM.
The Locum location is Caribou Memorial Hospital (CMH) in the Emergency Department and Gateway Crisis Stabilization Unit (an assessment and short term intervention alternative to hospital-based care which addresses crisis response, stabilization services and referral for follow up services) as well as Community MHSU Clinic Programs.
Cariboo Memorial Hospital is a 31-bed hospital offering emergency, an intensive care unit, operating rooms, medical-surgical and obstetrical units, and ambulatory care services. Other services at the hospital include stress testing, lab and diagnostic imaging (including echo and CT scanning), out-patient hemodialysis and a five-bed psychiatric crisis stabilization unit (Gateway). There is 24-hour general surgery and obstetrical specialist coverage, full-time radiology, and a pediatric specialist. There are also visiting ophthalmology and rheumatology specialists. There is one adult Psychiatrist and one child Psychiatrist.
The Community MHSU Clinic is an Interior Health-funded mental health clinic that provides clinical services to people living in Williams Lake and surrounding areas. The Clinic offers intake services as well as clinical care through multiple clinic programs including, Substance Use, Early Psychosis, Counselling, and Treatment Support and Rehabilitation. There are also Telehealth opportunities to our more rural communities to provide consultation to the local general practitioners.
This 3-6 month LOCUM position is in general psychiatry and is divided amongst two sites: CMH (40%) and Community MHSU Clinic (60%). This position provides an opportunity to work in two dynamic programs, providing emergent and stabilization treatment to individuals and their families as well as outpatient consultation. You would work with Social Workers, Nurses, Physicians, and others to provide the most client-centred, comprehensive care possible. You would have access to a range of medical specialists. Both programs offer the opportunity to participate in quality improvement and program development activities. Applicants interested in less than a full-time locum position should still apply.
