Practice Details:

Hillside Center *Acute Tertiary Psychiatric Center, with Geriatric Psychiatry Program Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) *Tertiary Hospital

Hillside Psychiatric Center is a 47 bed Acute Tertiary facility located on the Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) campus.

The Hillside is a regional center that services both the Interior Health and Northern Health populations. The Center services both adults and older patients with acute illness that is complex and or refractory to treatment. This is an extraordinary opportunity that is rare in the scope of practice and regional breadth of patient population.

Core Competencies for this role include, but are not limited to:
• Strong collaboration skills as you will need to participate with high performing multidisciplinary teams while treating complex and challenging patients
• Exceptional assessment and diagnostic skills
• As the catchment area includes patients from the entire region, Rural telehealth and counselling program experience required and a general understanding of rural and remote community care systems is beneficial
• Understanding how to advocate for patients (i.e. promoting special care, close to home, in the least restrictive environment).
• Ability to strategically focus on diagnosis and stabilization with re-integration back to communities as the target outcome
• Strong psychopharmacologic skills is a critical asset with the capacity to understand applicable research and novel therapeutics.
Role Expectations:
• General Psychiatry call rotation at RIH is mandatory
• Provide comprehensive treatment and management of patients with complex illness, including those with concurrent substance use disorders and neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental disorders
• Participate in teaching of medical students and psychiatry residents as part of an academic position with UBC

This position is most suited to a general psychiatrist with experience in treating individuals with severe and persistent mental illness, complemented by relevant experience in neurocognitive and neurodevelopmental disorders and/or geriatric psychiatry.
