Practice Details:

The KBRH emergency department is looking to expand our group of collegial and collaborative emergency physicians. Our team is comprised of 11 emergency physicians who support approximately 17,000 patient visits per year. Full time employment is approximately 12-14 shifts per month, with a flexible schedule which can be adjusted to accommodate other clinical activities outside of the emergency department. Our scheduler works to accommodate everyone's vacation requests. Full and part time applicants are welcome to join our group.

Our population is diverse in age and presentation. We see a variety of pediatrics, mental health, trauma, geriatrics medical and surgical presentations. We are well supported by our specialist colleagues and have access to medical imaging including CT and MRI onsite.

We are the regional Trauma and ICU Referral Centre. Our department is spacious, and bright having been built in 2020, and supported by an amazing team of allied health professionals including mental health and substance use nurses, physiotherapy, and 24hour respiratory therapy .

We are proud to be part of the Southern Medical Program Integrated Clerkship Program and a UBC Family Practice Residency Site. You will have the regular opportunity to work with medical students and residents in our department.

As a department we engage in regular CME activities including journal club, M+M rounds and simulations. Our department is actively involved in facility engagement activities and funds are available for a variety of quality improvement projects.

Qualifications:
  • Doctorate in Medicine
  • Emergency experience
  • Certificate of College of Family Physicians of Canada-Emerg Med (CCFP-EM) is desired Eligible for licensure with CPSBC Coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association USA Certified Class accepted. We will recruit USA Certified Class Physicians ****Certain specialists who are not eligible for full or provisional licensure in BC may be eligible to apply for licensure in the USA certified class ****
Call Schedule:

Hours of work: Shifts are between 6.5-9 hours of patient contact in length. The number of shifts worked per month is flexible and there are 4 shifts per day: 7:30-14:00, 13:00-19:30, 16:30-23:00, 23:00-08:00. Most of our physicians work 8-14 shifts per month.

Compensation:
Estimated Gross Income

$250,000-$375,000 (for full-time), plus MOCAP level 1, stipend of $550.00 per night shift and rural incentives listed below.


RSA Incentives

Rural Incentives include:
Recruitment Incentive: $15,000 (for full-time, pro-rated for part-time position)
Relocation: $9,000 - $15,000 based on move location
Fee premium of 11.20%
Annual Flat fee of $12,892.00
RCME support to max of $6,600 after 4 years

Rural incentives are subject to change and current rates are confirmed at time of offer.

Candidates with a BC or Canada student loan may be eligible for BC or Canada loan forgiveness programs.


Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital:

The largest diagnostic and acute care hospital in the West Kootenays, the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH) is a 75-bed full service regional hospital serving 80,000 people in the Kootenay Boundary region.  KBRH offers core specialist physician services including 24-hour Emergency and Trauma Services, Level 2 Laboratory, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Acute and Obstetrical Care, Orthopedics, Plastics, Urology, Ophthalmology, Psychiatry, Chemotherapy and advanced diagnostic services. KBRH is the regional base for the 24-hour High Acuity Response Team (HART) consisting of dedicated critical care transport nurses, and as required, respiratory therapists, who respond to support rural and remote clinicians in the transport and management of critically ill and injured patients. Transport is supported by BC Ambulance Services (BCAS) for major medical care with transfer to Kelowna that is 313 kilometers from Trail.
