Practice Details:

Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) in Kamloops is seeking a full time Gastroenterologist to join a collaborative and skilled group dedicated to exceptional patient care. This role offers a rewarding mix of hospital-based and community practice within a team that values collegiality, shared expertise, and high quality service.

Our gastroenterologists provide general gastroenterology and hepatology care through a referral-based practice that includes participation in the provincial Colorectal Cancer Screening Program. The group operates with a centralized referral system and a unified EMR (Accuro), which the successful candidate will be welcomed into. Additional GI subspecialty training is welcomed but not required. The division is supported by a colorectal surgeon with advanced IBD expertise.

Clinical work includes inpatient consultations and participation in the GI on call rotation. Advanced procedural capabilities at RIH include EUS, ERCP, endoluminal stenting, pH studies, esophageal motility testing, and cancer therapy (excluding radiation). A major expansion of cancer services is underway, with a new cancer centre - including radiation therapy - scheduled to open in 2028.

The Hepatology/Viral Hepatitis Clinic offers specialized nursing support and FibroScan technology, with optional clinic participation. Interventional radiology services and rotating gastroenterology fellows further enhance the depth of practice.

The department benefits from strong working relationships with general surgeons, GPs/hospitalists, and highly skilled RNs, creating a supportive and collegial clinical environment.

Teaching opportunities are available through RIH’s affiliation with the UBC Faculty of Medicine, with involvement in training medical students and residents.

Leadership development opportunities are available through Interior Health’s NAVIG8 Program.

Qualifications:
  • Eligible for Fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC)
  • Eligible for licensure with CPSBC
  • Doctorate in Medicine
  • Coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association is mandatory
