Kamloops

Kamloops is a vibrant city of 100,000, at the northern extension of productive wine country in south central British Columbia. We sit in the middle of lakes, mountains, ski hills, and river systems. We enjoy biking, hiking, skiing, water sports, all right here in our backyard. Our community has an excellent educational system, organized sports, music and theatre. There are amenities not often found in smaller urban centres. University affiliations provide rejuvenation and an atmosphere to keep learning.

The General Internal Medicine division provides extensive inpatient and outpatient services. There is an inpatient ward for internal medicine MRP patients with collaborative care from a multidisciplinary team. General internists also provide care to the Step Down Unit/high acuity unit for more complex and acute patients requiring higher level monitoring. An inpatient internal medicine consultative service also provides support to other specialties. General internists provide 4-5 call per month with an interesting and varied patient population. General internists are well supported with separate call schedules for ICU, Cardiology, Nephrology and Gastroenterology. There are also extensive hospital based clinics including a rapid access internal medicine clinic, a perioperative medicine service, diabetes clinic, exercise stress tests, supervision of myocardial perfusion imaging, a vascular disease risk factor modification clinic, and interpretation of ECGs. A shared private outpatient clinic also provides community support for patients requiring longer term follow up.

Royal Inland Hospital provides an excellent working environment with a highly collegial medical/surgical and allied health staff. There is a regular rotation of GIM fellows/residents from UBC as well as family practice residents and medical students that rotate through Royal Inland Hospital providing clinical service and opportunities for teaching. There are regular complex care rounds, journal club, and other CME opportunities available. Holidays are negotiable, typically 10-14 weeks per year depending on the services ability to accommodate.
