Practice Details:

The RIH IM team provides extensive inpatient and outpatient services, offering a dynamic and rewarding environment for physicians who thrive on meaningful, varied clinical work. There is an inpatient ward for internal medicine MRP patients with collaborative care from a multidisciplinary team, and general internists also provide care to the Step Down Unit/high acuity unit for more complex and acute patients requiring higher level monitoring. An inpatient internal medicine consultative service also provides support to other specialties, ensuring broad exposure to diverse clinical presentations.

General internists provide 4–5 call per month with an interesting and varied patient population and are well supported with separate call schedules for ICU, Cardiology, Nephrology and Gastroenterology. The team is engaged in extensive hospital based clinics including a rapid access internal medicine clinic, a perioperative medicine service, diabetes clinic, exercise stress tests, supervision of myocardial perfusion imaging, a vascular disease risk factor modification clinic, and interpretation of ECGs. A shared private outpatient clinic also provides community support for patients requiring longer term follow up, adding further variety to your practice.

Royal Inland Hospital offers an excellent working environment with a highly collegial medical/surgical and allied health staff. A regular rotation of GIM fellows/residents from UBC, along with family practice residents and medical students, contributes to a rich academic atmosphere with numerous opportunities for teaching and mentorship. The team also benefits from regular complex care rounds, journal club, and a wide range of CME opportunities. Holidays are negotiable, typically 10–14 weeks per year depending on the services ability to accommodate.

Leadership development opportunities are available through Interior Health’s NAVIG8 Program.
