Practice Details:

Fantastic opportunity for a Stroke Neurologist to join the rapidly expanding and highly collegial team of talented and dedicated professionals at Kelowna General Hospital’s Stroke Network.

Located in the city of Kelowna, the KGH stroke team is the main referral center for Interior Health (IH) with a catchment population of approximately 1,000,000 people. The Stroke Program has achieved some of the best outcomes in Canada and provides residents of the BC Interior with the stroke care they need. We cover the region via a long history of virtual care. This is used to support whole continuum of stroke care.

The area that is directly covered by KGH has over 1900 acute strokes per year. Our group of 9 is currently made up of four stroke neurologists, movement disorder, headache, neuromuscular, and general neurologists. We also have 5 stroke nurses and have a dedicated stroke unit. If you are comfortable working with all aspects of complex stroke care, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in rural and remote areas, enjoy working in a highly integrated team setting and are excited to further develop our programs and service delivery, this could be the opportunity for you!

In this position you will also have the opportunity to discover the rewards of clinical teaching with our 6-month Stroke Certificate Program as well as the 3rd and 4th year medical students of the UBC Southern Medical Program, Family Medicine Residents, Emergency Medicine Residents and visiting residents from other locations.

We also engage in multiple stroke trials both nationally and locally and are working on innovative solutions for largely under represented rural and remote populations.

For those interested there are multiple supports for leadership development such as Interior Health’s NAVIG8 Program. The NAVIG8 Emerging Physician Leaders Program is a comprehensive leadership development program designed specifically for physicians to address the practical leadership knowledge, behaviours and skills that high potential, emerging medical leaders require to step into leadership roles early in their careers.

Locum opportunities are available during the recruitment period, and encourage all those interested to apply.
