Practice Details:

We would like all Family Practitioners to know we are actively recruiting a 0.6 FTE GPO to join Dr. Katie Forman in the GP Oncology Program at KBRH.
The selected physician will deliver a range of cancer services to patients with all possible tumor sites. They will help to manage oncology patients primarily in the outpatient setting but also support inpatient, indirect and remote care; this GPO will help care for patients throughout their entire treatment pathway including primary treatment through survivorship.
Responsibilities will include supervision of treatment using chemotherapy, immunotherapy and targeted therapy as well as patient education, supportive care, and end of life/palliative care planning. We maintain active communication and participation with various multidisciplinary cancer program oncologist teams to ensure safe and effective care. This position will be involved with managing acute toxicities, dose adjustment and modifying treatment plans, support for infusions and visit summaries. The physician will provide ongoing surveillance and monitoring of patients that have completed their treatment to monitor for cancer recurrence or treatment related complications.
The GPO maintains regular communication with the specialist regarding the plan of care and practices collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team, consulting with members of other health professions, as appropriate. The GPO acts as a resource to the oncology patient’s primary care provider and other health care providers on issues related to the care of cancer patients (e.g., providing guidance during work-up of suspected cancer patients, addressing questions related to referral process, sharing information related to management of cancer patients, etc.).
The role is extremely interesting and profoundly meaningful to patients.

There is no on-call service or evening work associated with this role. No previous experience in oncology is required. The department will support the successful applicant in developing the requisite expertise for the role. Qualifications:
  • Doctorate in Medicine
  • Eligible for The College of Family Physicians of Canada Cert. (CCFP)
  • Certificant of College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP)
  • GP ONCOLOGY TRAINING INFORMATION The mandatory GP oncology training is an 8 week course, including 4 weeks online didactic learning and 6 weeks of practical training with the BC Cancer Agency. The next training session is Fall 2023 via Virtual Delivery starting September 2023. For more information, please visit: General Practitioner in Oncology Education Program (bccancer.bc.ca) We encourage anyone who is interested to start with the 4 week introductory didactic learning module to determine interest in the full program. Fall 2023 will be delivered virtually with morning lectures, September 11-22, and morning lectures, October 3-17, 2023. REAP funding is available for this training.
