Practice Details:
At Royal Inland Hospital (RIH), you will play a vital role in delivering compassionate, high quality care while working in a collegial and supportive hospitalist practice. As the regional tertiary referral centre for the Thompson Cariboo Shuswap, RIH offers a diverse and engaging clinical environment where hospitalists manage a wide spectrum of conditions, including acute illness, chronic disease, complex geriatric care, and trauma. You will care for patients across the lifespan and serve a richly diverse population, including Indigenous communities and new Canadians, with seasonal and regional variations providing continual clinical interest. You will be supported by an experienced and collaborative hospitalist team, with a strong emphasis on mentorship, comprehensive onboarding, interdisciplinary collaboration, and ongoing professional development to help you thrive in your role.
The scheduling model at RIH is designed to support flexibility and long term sustainability. Full time hospitalists work 24 weeks per year, averaging 72 hours per week, with each week consisting of six day shifts, one 12 hour late shift to midnight (on site until 11 p.m.), and one 8 hour overnight home call. For a 1.0 FTE, this averages one extended late shift and one overnight call every two weeks, with call frequency adjustable based on individual preference. All hours worked between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m. are eligible for MOCAP Level 2. Part time opportunities are also welcomed and supported.

Hospitalists participate in interdisciplinary rounds, supported CME, and conferences, and have opportunities to teach family practice residents, UBC third year clerks, and fourth year visiting students. Clinical Service Contract: For a full time hospitalist, anticipate an annual base income of $336,168.00 or $200.10/ hour. Up to an additional 40% is also available with group contract incentives. MOCAP level 2 and After Hours Premiums also provided.

The Phil and Jennie Gaglardi Tower, a $417-million expansion opened in the summer of 2022, has propelled RIH into a new healthcare era, featuring advanced mental health units and surgical services.
