Practice Details:

Join our team in emergency medicine at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital, where quick decision-making and staying calm under pressure are paramount. Our ER doctors enjoy the security of an Alternative Payments Program model, ensuring a stable income and allowing them to focus fully on delivering exceptional care. This sought-after arrangement is available only in select ERs in BC, providing our physicians with financial peace of mind.

We have 10 emergency physicians, collectively handling approximately 23,000 patient visits per year. EKRH is the regional Trauma and ICU Referral Centre, so you'll be seeing challenging cases that will keep up your acute care skills but still allow you to live and play in a rural setting. You'll encounter cases spanning the entire spectrum of emergency medicine, collaborating with an incredible team of allied health professionals, such as mental health and substance use nurses, physical and occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists and round-the-clock respiratory therapists.

You'll have the opportunity to continue and advance your teaching skills through the numerous local CME sessions, along with the bedside teaching opportunities with residents and medical students that come to the EKRH year-round.

We actively engage in facility-wide initiatives, providing dedicated funding for a variety of impactful quality improvement projects, enabling you to contribute significantly to enhancing patient care outcomes.

This job posting is for a position covered by the Provincial Health Officer’s mandatory COVID-19 vaccination order, and selected applicant(s) must comply with the requirements of the order.

Qualifications:
  • Eligible for Fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC)
  • Doctorate in Medicine
  • Eligible for Certification with the College of Family Physicians – Emergency Medicine (CCFP-EM) is preferred; Consideration will also be given to physicians with current CCFP who possess emergency experience. Licensure, or eligible for licensure, with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC); and mandatory coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association. If you’re a US-trained physician with ABMS certification in emergency medicine, you may be eligible to practice under the USA certified class.
Call Schedule:

Hours of work: We offer five 8-hour shifts a day, ensuring 16 hours of double coverage. A full time team member works 14 shifts a month, with the potential for additional shifts based on departmental needs.

Compensation:
Estimated Gross Income

Based on a 1.0 FTE (1340 direct patient-care hours and up to 340 indirect hours), you will receive an estimated yearly remuneration of $388,527 + rural fee premium of 14% + rural retention bonus of $21,246 (approximate total income of $464K/year).


RSA Incentives

Recruitment incentive: $20,000*
Relocation: determined by your current location, the relocation allowance ranges from $9,000 to $15,000
Fee premium: up to 14%
Annual retention fee: up to $21,246
RCME funding: up to 2 years $1,320, in 3rd & 4th year $3,520, after 4 years $5,720

Additional Incentives

Recruitment incentive: $20,000, pro-rated for physicians working less than full time.
Relocation: $9,000 for within BC, $12,000 outside of BC but within Canada, and $15,000 outside of Canada.

Annual retention fee: $21,246, providing the physician resides and practices in Cranbrook for a minimum 9 months per year.
RCME funding: You will be eligible to receive $1,320 for up to 2 years in Cranbrook, $3,520 during your 3rd and 4th year, and $5,720 after 4 years, in addition to the Doctors of BC CME funds.

East Kootenay Regional Hospital:
