Practice Details:

Exciting opportunity available at Kelowna General Hospital (KGH) for Neurologist to join our team. We are looking for a specialist with an interest in neuromuscular disease. This includes care of people with muscle, nerve and neuromuscular junction disorders, such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, myasthenia gravis, and other complex neuromuscular disease within an outpatient clinic program. Our program has previously served patients with a multidisciplinary hospital-based clinic with respirology, speech language pathology, and palliative care services. Our site has trained technologists for electromyography and nerve conduction studies and has facilities for the specialist to conduct testing for acute care patients with neuromuscular disease and outpatients with complex neuromuscular disease.

This position is a mix of office-based practice along with hospital/on-call coverage with a frequency of approximately 1 in 5 to 1 in 6. For those interested, there is also the opportunity to discover the rewards of being actively involved in teaching medical students and residents from UBC.

Qualifications:
  • Eligible for Fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC)
  • Doctorate in Medicine
  • Eligible for licensure with CPSBC Coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association is mandatory. Fellowship training in neuromuscular disease and licensed to perform EMG/NCS by Canadian Society of Clinical Neurophysiology

$250,000 - $500,000, plus MOCAP level 1

Kelowna General Hospital (KGH) is one of two tertiary hospitals within Interior Health and is the region’s main referral centre offering a full range of services with approximately 400 beds and over 84,000 ED visits yearly. Kelowna General Hospital is home to the Interior Heart & Surgical Centre (IHSC) which opened in 2015 and is BC’s only cardiac critical care centre outside of Victoria and the Lower Mainland. IHSC is Kelowna General Hospital’s principal surgical site and features 12 specialized Operating Rooms created for Thoracic, Urology, Neurosurgery, Vascular, Plastics, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Ears Nose and Throat, Orthopedics, General and Trauma surgeries with 2 ORs dedicated to Cardiac Surgery. Our state of the art Centennial Building boasts a total of 360,000 square feet, an expanded emergency and ambulatory care department, new medical inpatient units, modern operating rooms and a rooftop helipad. Within the Interior Heart & Surgical Centre, KGH has a modern maternity ward and adjacent Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
