Practice Details:

Foundry is excited to announce an opening in their physician group for a part time (.5 FTE) physician. As a Family Physician at Foundry East Kootenay, you will join an interdisciplinary team to deliver client-centered medical care to youth, supporting Foundry's valuable mission to make support more accessible in communities. Foundry is dedicated to breaking down barriers and expanding access to health and wellness services for young people aged 12–24 and their caregivers across British Columbia. Through a network of youth-friendly centers and online platforms, Foundry provides integrated mental health care, substance use services, physical and sexual health care, youth and family peer support, and social services.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
• Provide team-based care in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team including nurse practitioners, registered nurses, social workers, counselors, etc.
• Utilize a harm reduction approach to care, ensuring services are tailored to the unique needs of young people.
• Offer learning opportunities and support for students and residents attached to the teams.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing client outcomes, contributing to projects across acute and community care.
• Deliver services, assessments, and support in areas including mental health, sexual health, physical health, and substance use.
• Proactively engage in client care by leveraging EMR supports, Practice Support Program supports, and quality improvement initiatives, maximizing the use and scope of interdisciplinary team members.
• Engage in interdisciplinary team engagement events and educational opportunities to advance practice and client outcomes.
• Provide low barrier, youth-friendly care that prioritizes accessibility and inclusivity.

Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to support gender-affirming care, opioid agonist therapy, and contraceptive support, or the willingness to train in the above.
• Demonstrated knowledge and skills in reproductive health, including sexual health and STI prevention and treatment.
• Proficiency in addressing common physical and emotional problems of young people.
• Understanding of child and adolescent physical, psychological, and social development.
• Familiarity with harm reduction strategies for young people and health promotion/prevention strategies.
• Awareness of the unique ethical, legal, and confidentiality issues in caring for young people.
• Knowledge of hospital and community resources available for young people.
• Awareness of and sensitivity to diverse cultural beliefs and practices.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team environment.

Qualifications:
• Medical degree and eligibility for licensure, in good standing, with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.
• Current Canadian Medical Protection Association coverage, or equivalent.
• Enthusiasm for and experience working with young adults and adolescents.
• Eligibility for a faculty appointment with the University of British Columbia Faculty of Medicine is an asset.

Remuneration: Remuneration will be in accordance with the Doctors of BC/MSP negotiated clinical service contract with hourly wage plus the rural retention premium. There are no call requirements or overhead commitment.

  • Eligible for The College of Family Physicians of Canada Cert. (CCFP)
  • Eligible for licensure with CPSBC
  • Doctorate in Medicine
  • Coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association is mandatory

RSA Incentives

Rural Incentives include:
Recruitment bonus: $20,000
Relocation: $9,000 - $15,000 based on move location
Fee Premium: 14.00%
Annual Retention: $21,696.00
Rural CME: max of $5,720 /year after 4 years in practice

Rural incentives are subject to change and current rates are confirmed at time of offer.
Candidates with a BC or Canada student loan may be eligible for loan forgiveness programs.
