Practice Details:
Kootenay Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine is recruiting an orthopaedic surgeon to join our team. The successful candidate will be a general orthopaedic surgeon. Subspecialty training in arthroplasty, trauma, or hand and wrist will be considered assets.
The successful applicant needs to:
• have passed Canadian licencing exams FRCS (C)
• have CMPA liability insurance coverage
• obtain a licence to practice in British Columbia
The successful applicant is expected to:
• provide MOCAP level one on-call coverage; call is equally distributed and averages 1:5/6
• operate at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital and open an elective practice in the Trail/Rossland area
• teach medical students and residents during their orthopaedic surgery rotations
As part of the selection process, it is expected that short listed candidates will work as a locum for a determined period of time in order to allow the candidate to become familiar with the team, the work site, and the community before the final decision is made.
There is an opportunity for the successful candidate to join an existing practice with four orthopaedic surgeons with shared overhead costs and office space.

The position offers MOCAP level one on-call coverage, with call responsibilities being equally distributed among colleagues and averaging once every five to six days.
Compensation:
Estimated Gross Income
As a general orthopaedic surgeon in Trail, you'll earn between $400,000-$600,000, based on a fee-for-service model and MOCAP level 1.
RSA Incentives
Recruitment incentive: $15,000, prorated for physicians working less than full time
Relocation: $9,000 if moving within BC, $12,000 within Canada, and $15,000 from outside Canada
Fee premium: 11.48%
Annual retention fee: $17,790
RCME funding: $600 for up to 2 years in Trail, $3,600 during your 3rd and 4th year, and $6,600 after 4 years, in addition to the Doctors of BC CME funds.
The above numbers are based on a full-time position and may be prorated for physicians working less than full time. Rural incentives are subject to change and current rates are confirmed at the time of offer.
