Williams Lake is in BC’s Central Interior Region, otherwise known as the Cariboo Chilcotin Region, and is famous for the annual Williams Lake Stampede. There is a population of approximately 35,000 in Williams Lake and surrounding areas with a total population of 62,000 for the Cariboo Regional District. A vast array of lakes, rivers and hiking and biking trails, makes Williams Lake and the surrounding area a great place for outdoor enthusiasts to camp, fish, hunt and play during the summer months while winter months bring the enjoyment of snowmobiling, skiing, snowboarding, and ice fishing for the winter months. Permanent and Locum opportunities are available.

In this community you can practice GP Anesthesia 1-5 days a week, with 1:4 or 1:5 nights of call/weekends depending on the department size. We work in a stimulating environment ensuring we maintain our skills. We support General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dental procedures and visiting Orthopedic Surgeons, primarily focusing on knee and hip replacements. The community is currently recruiting a local Orthopedic Surgeon.

Experience would be an asset but we have the capacity to mentor new graduates. The successful applicants can expect to have a highly collaborative and interactive medical setting as well as the opportunity to educate medical students and family practice residence. There is an opportunity to have a part time Family Practice office, an ER practice, join our local long-term Care Group or GP oncology group
If you have an interest in a limited scope Interventional Chronic Pain service, dependent on training, it can be accommodated.

Williams Lake has all amenities, including a local college, an airport, and a variety of fitness and outdoor opportunities.

Service providers are remunerated through a highly competitive Alternative Payment Plan and MOCAP contract.

Qualifications:
  • Eligible for The College of Family Physicians of Canada Cert. (CCFP)
  • Eligible for licensure with CPSBC
  • Doctorate in Medicine
  • Anaesthesia experience
  • Coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association is mandatory

Rural Incentives include:
Recruitment bonus: $15,000
Relocation: $9,000 - $15,000 based on move location
Fee Premium: 12.32%
Annual Retention: enter $19,092.48
Rural CME: max of $4,840.00 /year after 4 years in practice

Rural incentives are subject to change and current rates are confirmed at time of offer.

Cariboo Memorial Hospital:

Cariboo Memorial is under renovation with planned completion of 2026! Currently, CMH is a Level 2 Community Hospital in Williams Lake with 28 inpatient beds. CMH hospital offers ER, OR, Med-Surg, and Obstetrical units. Lab and diagnostic imaging and outpatient Hemodialysis Unit are operated on-site. The CMH redevelopment project includes an addition to the existing hospital as well as renovations to the existing facility. The addition will add 25 in-patient beds for a total of 53, a new emergency department and mental-health unit.
