Practice Details:
The Central Okanagan Maternity Clinic is looking for 2.95 FTE Family Physicians with Obstetrics specialty to join our dynamic health care team in the stunning southern interior of British Columbia. The Family Physicians will provide comprehensive prenatal, delivery, and postnatal care. Patients are seen throughout all stages of their pregnancy and up to 8 weeks postpartum. The Family Physicians will also ensure that these clinical services are provided in a culturally safe and appropriate way to the local Indigenous communities. Intrapartum care is provided at Kelowna General Hospital 24/7, by clinic providers and also other maternity providers in the community. The successful physicians will collaborate with other practitioners to meet the care needs of mother and baby, whether the birth is planned to take place locally or at another site based on the required level of care.
There are currently three Patient Medical Homes (PMHs) with Family Physicians who offer full-service maternity care for their attached patients in the community: Strathcona, Mill Creek, and Guisachan. In addition, there are two midwifery clinics: Ponderosa and Westside Maternity Care. Other PMHs provide limited service such as pre- or post-natal care but do not do labor and delivery. The providers at COMC form the on call rotations to support delivery of babies and inpatient obstetrical care.
Candidates must demonstrate a patient-centered and collaborative, team-based approach to care delivery. Clear, respectful communication with patients, families, team members, leadership and external partners is required to work effectively and efficiently within the clinic and in alignment with the organization’s values, vision and mission.
A Physician at the Central Okanagan Maternity Clinic means working a rewarding day shift and then heading down to Okanagan Lake for a sunset paddleboard or kayak before grabbing dinner at one of the many outstanding restaurants in Kelowna. On a day off you can cycle along the Kettle Valley Rail Trail or take a hike to discover stunning views of the Okanagan Valley. If you’re an adventure seeker, you will love mountain biking in Kelowna, with trails for all skill levels.
