About Sparling East Medical Centre

Located on Fernie's iconic main street, and 7 minutes from Fernie Alpine Resort, Sparling East Medical Centre is a bustling 9-physician clinic dedicated to providing top-notch healthcare services to the community. Our team is supported by a maternity nurse, chronic disease nurse, mental wellness clinician, occupational therapist, social worker and respiratory therapist. Our allied care providers provide on site care and their expertise strengthens the compassionate and culturally safe care of each patient we serve.

We are seeking 2 dedicated and enthusiastic Rural Family Practitioners to join our team at Sparling East Medical Centre. The physicians will also participate in emergency coverage at the Elk Valley Hospital, a busy 20-bed rural hospital that serves as the healthcare hub for Fernie, Sparwood, Elkford, and the surrounding Ktunaxa and South Country areas.

Key Responsibilities:
• Clinic Work: We value both patient care and quality of life for our physicians. Clinic hours are flexible to meet your work life balance.
• Hospital Duties: Participate in the emergency rotation with 6-8 shifts per month. Shifts are divided into 8-hour time slots (0800-1600, 1600-2400, 2400-0800), 7 days a week.
• Duty Doc/Hospitalist Program: Equally share in the program that includes caring for unattached patients during the week and signed-out patients on weekends, approximately 2 weeks every six months.

Qualifications:
  • Eligible for The College of Family Physicians of Canada Cert. (CCFP)
  • Eligible for licensure with CPSBC
  • Doctorate in Medicine
  • Coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association is mandatory
Call Schedule:

Hours of work: 8 hour shifts, 6-8 times/month
On call requirements: Flexible

Compensation:
Estimated Gross Income

$350-400,000 Gross


RSA Incentives

Rural Incentives include:
Recruitment bonus: $20,000
Relocation: $9,000 - $15,000 based on move location
Fee Premium: 15.54%
Annual Retention: $24,082.56
Rural CME: max of $5,720/year after 4 years in practice

Rural incentives are subject to change and current rates are confirmed at time of offer.
Candidates with a BC or Canada student loan may be eligible for loan forgiveness programs.
