Practice Details:

Foundry is dedicated to breaking down barriers and expanding access to health and wellness services for young people ages 12–24 and their caregivers across British Columbia. Through a network of youth-friendly centres across British Columbia and online platforms, Foundry offers five core integrated services: mental health care, substance use services, physical and sexual health care, youth and family peer support and social services.

As a Family Physician with a passion for preventive medicine and youth health, you will join an interdisciplinary team to deliver client-centered medical care to youth, supporting Foundry’s valuable mission to make support more accessible in communities. Under direction of the Foundry Penticton Medical Lead, the family physician provides episodic, specialized/enhanced, and longitudinal care within an inter-disciplinary team.

Foundry Penticton operated by OneSky Community Resources is currently seeking multiple physicians to work within a group clinical service contract, up to 0.8 FTE. One Sky Community Resources, as the lead agency and operator of Foundry Penticton, provides services throughout the South Okanagan from newborn babies to seniors. Skills and Abilities:
- Enthusiasm for, and experience in, working with adolescents and young adults.
- Proficiency in addressing common physical and emotional problems of young people.
- Understanding of adolescent and young adult physical, psychological, and social development.
- Be able, or willing to be trained, to support gender-affirming care, opioid agonist therapy and contraceptive support.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills in reproductive health, including sexual health and STI prevention and treatment.
- Familiarity with harm reduction strategies and health promotion/prevention strategies.
- Awareness of the unique ethical, legal, and confidentiality issues in caring for young people.
- Knowledge of hospital and community resources available for young people.
- Awareness of and sensitivity to diverse cultural beliefs and practices, including a commitment to indigenous cultural safety and humility.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide team-based care in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team including nurse practitioners, registered nurses, social workers, counselors, etc.
- Deliver services, assessments, and support in areas including mental health, sexual health, physical health, and substance use.
- Utilize a harm reduction approach to care, ensuring services are tailored to the unique needs of young people and prioritizes accessibility and inclusivity.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing client outcomes, contributing to projects across acute and community care.
- Proactively engage in client care by leveraging EMR supports, Practice Support Program supports, and maximize the use and scope of interdisciplinary team members.
- Engage in interdisciplinary team engagement events and educational opportunities to advance practice and client outcomes.

Qualifications:
  • Eligible for The College of Family Physicians of Canada Cert. (CCFP)
  • Eligible for licensure with CPSBC
  • Doctorate in Medicine
  • Coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association is mandatory
