Practice Details:

Incredible opportunities are available for Gastroenterologists with a sub-specialty in addition to core training. Physicians with a special interest in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are encouraged to apply. Our IBD population has heavily expanded with influx to the Okanagan.

Kelowna Gastroenterology Associates has a full complement of GI subspecialty services including motility, therapeutics, hepatology, and IBD. We are supported by two colorectal surgeons dedicated to advanced IBD surgery. Our services include two IBD nurses, small bowel ultrasound, a newly established IBD clinic, and IBD clinical trial opportunities with a huge potential. The Kelowna Gastroenterology Associates are a group of 12 Gastroenterologists serving the interior of BC. There is no Internal medicine service or call requirements.

As part of the Gastroenterology team you will share an equal share of on-call and endoscopy time. You will be part of a rapidly growing Department of Medicine helping to serve the fastest growing community in the Interior. There are opportunities for involvement in teaching in the UBC Department of Medicine if desired in addition to other creative professional activities.

Qualifications:
  • Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC)
  • Eligible for licensure with CPSBC
  • Doctorate in Medicine
  • Coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association is mandatory

Kelowna General Hospital:

Kelowna General Hospital (KGH), one of BC's leading healthcare centres, is one of two tertiary hospitals within Interior Health. We offer a full range of services with approximately 400 beds and over 84,000 emergency department visits a year.

Home to the Interior Heart & Surgical Centre (IHSC), KGH houses BC’s only cardiac critical care centre outside of Victoria and the Lower Mainland, as well as its principal surgical site. The IHSC features 12 specialized operating rooms designed for thoracic, urology, neurosurgery, vascular, plastic, obstetric/gynecologic, ear, nose, and throat, orthopedic, general, and trauma surgeries. Of these, two operating rooms are dedicated to cardiac surgery. Within the IHSC, KGH also has a modern maternity ward and an adjacent neonatal intensive care unit.

Our state-of-the-art Centennial Building boasts 360,000 square feet and includes an expanded emergency and ambulatory care department, new medical inpatient units, modern operating rooms, and a rooftop helipad. Additional facilities include a dedicated pediatric ward, as well as adolescent and adult psychiatry units. The Dr. Walter Anderson Building houses enhanced laboratory and clinical departments, supporting advanced diagnostic and treatment capabilities.

KGH is also a teaching centre for the Southern Medical Program, affiliated with the University of British Columbia (UBC), and has an academic campus that serves as a satellite for the UBC Faculty of Medicine.
