Practice Details:

Join our growing neurology team at RIH and help shape neurological care in our region! We are a collegial team with a focus on continuous practice improvement and collaboration. Whether your focus is general neurology alone or includes a subspecialty interest, you will have the opportunity to take part in a satisfying full spectrum neurology practice.

Our inpatient care covers general neurology and acute stroke, including thrombolysis. Enjoy providing care in the brand new Gaglardi patient care tower, which houses a multi-disciplinary stroke/rehabilitation unit. Hospitalist and internal medicine teams support neurology admissions. Experience the collegiality RIH is known for when working with colleagues in neurosurgery, vascular surgery, physical medicine and rehabilitation, cardiology, general internal medicine, and infectious diseases! We also have strong ties with our regional colleagues at Kelowna General Hospital and are working to develop regional subspecialty care pathways.

Outpatient neurology clinics take place in the beautiful new Clinical Services Building. TIA/stroke clinic runs 5 days a week and is supported by a full time RN and booking clerk. Our EMG lab is state of the art and staffed by an experienced technician. Our EEG lab provides both inpatient and outpatient EEG services. Further outpatient clinic expansion is underway, with plans to add a rapid access neurology clinic as well as further supports for subspeciality neurology clinics.

If you are interested in teaching, you can be actively involved with the UBC clerkship and residency programs. We have on-site medical students, family medicine residents, internal medicine residents, as well as rotating residents in psychiatry and neurology. Leadership development opportunities are available through Interior Health’s NAVIG8 Program.

Locum opportunities are available during the recruitment period, An income guarantee (IG) of $15,000 per 7-day period is available until December 31, 2026. The IG is inclusive of all income sources, including MOCAP. Our current locum exception policy covers reasonable travel and accommodation costs, allowing you to focus on providing patient care. To be considered for a locum, you must already be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Qualifications:
  • Eligible for Fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC)
  • Eligible for licensure with CPSBC
  • Coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association is mandatory

Estimated Gross Income

Annual billings of $250,000–$450,000 can be expected for a full-time commitment, based on a combination of hospital-based and community practice. Actual income will vary depending on clinical activity and call participation.


Additional Incentives

For a full-time position, we offer up to $9,000 in assistance for moves within BC, up to $12,000 for moves from elsewhere in Canada, and up to $15,000 for moves from outside Canada. Please note that incentives are subject to change and that current rates are confirmed at the time of offer.

The Phil and Jennie Gaglardi Tower, a $417-million expansion opened in the summer of 2022, has propelled RIH into a new healthcare era, featuring advanced mental health units and surgical services. In 2024, we completed our new post-anesthetic recovery room and pediatric unit, while revamping the emergency entrance – with the department's full completion on track for autumn 2026.Further ambitious growth includes a $359-million cancer centre, set to enrich our cancer care services by 2028.
