Position Summary:
The Site Medical Director, RIH is a physician administrator and leader who works to achieve a collaborative working relationship between physicians and administration based on the “One IH” culture and its objectives

This position requires dedicated block time and will have specific deliverables that elaborate on the job description based on the needs of the specific site. These will be outlined in Schedule A of the contract.

This position is a 3 to 6 year term renewable by mutual agreement between the Agency and the individual. The Site Medical Director, RIH may be asked to serve as Acting Site Chief of Staff when the latter is on holiday leave or unable to perform their duties due to sickness or disability.

Reporting Structure:
The Site Medical Director, RIH reports through the Senior Medical Director Kamloops Acute to the Executive Medical Director for all medical leadership and governance functions, and works in alignment with the Site Health Service Administrator and Site Chief of Staff for all hospital operations issues.

Core Accountabilities:

1. Participates with the Site Chief of Staff in leading the medical staff in implementing the “One IH” QR&A Vision, Mission and Goals.
- Actively participates and ensures physician participation in risk management and accreditation activities

2. Leads the Quality Portfolio at the Site including :
- Chairs the Local Quality Committee, participates in agenda setting and pre-meeting preparation, prioritization, and action item tracking
- Identifies opportunities for improvement in local quality work structure, engages and works with other medical staff to participate in Quality endeavors
- Develops expertise in Quality and Patient Safety at the site, makes efforts to participate in yearly Quality Forum and other Quality related CME activities
- Participates in Critical Incident Reviews and Decision Review meetings
- Gains expertise to act as a facilitator for Department heads and others engaging with the Patient Care Quality Office to appropriately address concerns
- Participates in review and solution seeking for Quality related data review at the site including hospital mortality, infection control measures (i.e. hand hygiene), and other prospective quality metrics reported at a site level
- Develops expertise in addressing PSLS incidents at the site level
- Enhances leadership skills and mentorship for other medical staff participating in quality endeavors

3. Performs other duties as specified in Schedule A of the contract

Qualifications:

• Licensed or eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC or the BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a Physician, Nurse Practitioner, Dentist or Midwife in B.C. . Medical leadership experience and demonstrated effectiveness. Clinically active physician or nurse practitioner within Interior Health (credentialed or eligible for credentialling, and eligible for privileging if determined to be required for aspects of this role). A Master’s Degree in hospital, healthcare, business administration, or an equivalent degree is preferred.
