Facility Details — Invermere & District Hospital:
The Invermere Hospital is a unique facility in that all healthcare services across the continuum of care are under one roof, providing for a very cohesive approach to patient care. The hospital is a level 1 community hospital with a very busy state of the art, well functioning 12 bed Emergency Department. Invermere and District Hospital was built in 1991 and the Columbia House Residential Care was added in 1994 and then later expanded to 35 beds in 2005. A new public/private share residential care, Ivy House, has recently been built in the next block.
Practice Details:

We seek a full time General Practitioner for a busy, broad-scope, rural family practice in Invermere, BC! The practice is described as ideal for physicians interested in a rural medical practice with the added challenge of emergency work. Clinic days encompass a mix of same day urgent condition bookings alongside pre-booked longitudinal care visits. The practice includes all ages, and in many cases, all/most family members. There is complex and chronic care but it is not an overwhelming part of the practice. Low risk obstetrics is an option, but currently managed by three GPs and one mid-wife. Our clinics hosts a chronic diseases support nurse, hearing clinic and the midwife. Various specialists from Cranbrook provide visiting consultation clinics at the Invermere Hospital.

Our comfortable and welcoming clinic is set up for 5 full time family practitioners with two exam rooms/physician. Currently we are a group practice of 4 full time physicians plus a couple sharing a 5th position. A practice sharing arrangement could be envisioned for two physicians wishing to share this busy practice each working part time.

Through the UBC Medical School we teach Family Practice Residents and Medical Students completing the rural component of their training. They typically describe their experiences as invaluable!

Emergency call is roughly 1:9, typically 1 X 12 hour shift/week and 1:4 weekends a month. The ER shifts can be challenging but our ER is modern, well equipped and well supported. GP’s also provide the hospital and long term care coverage for their local inpatients. We receive MOCAP funding and Rural Emergency Enhancement Funding (REEF).

Call Schedule:

  • Payment Structure
    • Fee for Service
    • + MOCAP and REEF for ER call
  • Estimated Gross Income
    • Estimated Gross if full time, $400,000
  • Overhead

  • RSA Incentives
    • Provincial Rural Incentives apply and typically include:
    • Recruitment bonus of 20,000 (for full time);
    • Relocation $9K, $12K or $15K depending on whether in BC, Out of Province or International;
    • Fee premium of 21.14%;
    • Annual flat fee of $21,254;
    • Rural CME support: up to a max of $5,720 after 4 years in community.
    • Rural incentive rates are subject to change but reflect available information at time of posting.
    • Candidates with a BC or Canada student loan may be eligible for BC or Canada loan forgiveness programs.
