Clinic Details — Royal Inland Hospital:
The Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) is a 258-bed facility that serves as the referral centre for approximately 250,000 people, and is located in the Thompson Cariboo Shuswap Health Service Area. As one of two Interior Health tertiary referral hospitals, RIH is a no refusal centre with an Emergency Department that receives over 250 major trauma and 72,000 visits per year.

Kamloops offers high-level, specialty medical care including core physician specialties, 24-hour Emergency and Trauma Services, Ambulatory and Outpatient Clinics, and Diagnostic Services Support services including: a full complement of diagnostic equipment, a Clinical Neurophysiology Lab and Sleep Lab, 1.5T MRI, two CT scans, and Echocardiography. RIH also features, Stroke Thrombolysis, and provincial Tertiary Neuropsychiatry Programs. RIH is the regional base for the six-person, 24-hour High Acuity Response Team (HART) that is utilized in remote emergency transport situations. Surgical services include General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Vascular Surgery, Otolaryngology, Ophthalmology, Plastic Surgery, Urology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and 24/7 Anesthesia coverage.

Practice Details:

The Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) in Kamloops, BC is seeking a full-time Stroke Neurologist to complement our team. Come join one of the fastest growing cities and medical communities in BC and be part of the action as we prepare to open a new Patient Care Tower with an 8 bed Acute Stroke Unit in 2022. Our current 8 bed Stroke Unit has been operating since 2009 and we would like enhance it with a fellowship trained medical director. Our TIA Clinic sees over 480 patients per year, and 300 plus cerebrovascular patients are admitted to RIH annually. Patients needing interventional stroke treatments are transferred to Kelowna General Hospital. RIH is a Trauma Centre with a dedicated helicopter. There is ample opportunity to participate in stroke research including collaboration with the Kelowna Stroke Neurologists currently doing trials. As well, a Stroke Neurologist based at RIH would be ideally placed to improve rural stroke systems of care for the Thompson Cariboo Shuswap region of Interior Health. In this position you will enjoy dedicated clinic space and admin support in the Clinical Services Building (CSB), opened in 2016. There are excellent opportunities for a hospital-based inpatient and outpatient practice. Hospital on-call coverage is expected with frequency approximately 1 in 6. Experience the satisfaction of seeing patients in well run, established Stroke and Rehabilitation units where neurologists collaborate with Physiatry and MRP Hospitalists. TeleHealth infrastructure is integrated into our CSB Urgent Neurology Clinic and our TIA Clinic. RIH has a state-of-the-art ICU, a renovated ER that has led the way in EMR documentation in BC, and Rapid Access Cardiology and Internal Medicine Outpatient Services that work alongside Neurology in the CSB. We welcome all candidates with FRCPC qualifications to apply. The current neurology group has certifications in Neurophysiology, Vascular Neurology, and Movement Disorders. Our tertiary care, UBC-affiliated teaching hospital offers an excellent team of emergency medicine physicians, four neurosurgeons, three vascular surgeons, two physiatrists, hospitalists, family physicians, general internists, intensivists, cardiologists, nephrologists, infectious disease specialists, radiologists, and other subspecialists who are a pleasure to work with. Most patients are admitted under the Hospitalist service as MRP. There is opportunity to be involved in educating UBC medical students and residents. There is generous support for those interested in a neurology locum-to-potential-recruitment position at RIH with a guaranteed minimum income of $15,000 per week on-call, with travel and accommodation covered.     • Relocation Assistance: Applicable for 1.0 FTE positions, $9,000 - $15,000 based on move location (with eligible receipts).
