Clinic Details — Kelowna General Hospital:

Kelowna General Hospital (KGH) is one of two tertiary hospitals within Interior Health and is the region’s main referral center offering a full range of services with approximately 400 beds and over 84,000 ED visits yearly. Kelowna General Hospital is home to the Interior Heart & Surgical Centre (IHSC) which opened in 2015 and is BC’s only cardiac critical care centre outside of Victoria and the Lower Mainland. IHSC is Kelowna General Hospital’s principal surgical site and features; 12 specialized Operating Rooms created for Thoracic, Urology, Neurosurgery, Vascular, Plastics, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Ears Nose and Throat, Orthopedics, General and Trauma surgeries with 2 ORs dedicated to Cardiac Surgery. Our state of the art Centennial Building also recently opened and boasts a total of 360,000 square feet, an expanded emergency and ambulatory care department, modern operating rooms and a rooftop helipad. KGH is also a teaching centre for the Southern Medical Program affiliated with UBC. With the Interior Heart & Surgical Centre and new medical inpatient units in the Centennial Building, dedicated psychiatry units for youth and adults, a modern maternity ward, enhanced laboratory and clinical departments in the new Dr. Walter Anderson Building, and an academic campus that serves as a satellite for the University of British Columbia Medical School, KGH has become one of BC’s leading healthcare centres.

Practice Details:

The Department of Emergency Medicine at Kelowna General Hospital is seeking an emergency physician for a part-time locum opportunity. Kelowna General Hospital is a 400-bed tertiary hospital serving the Southern Interior of B.C. and acting as a referral center for Interior Health. Facilities are brand-new, including new patient care towers, a new ED, and the Interior Heart and Surgical Center. The hospital is a Level 2 Trauma Center, performs coronary revascularizations, open heart surgery and ECMO, and is the pediatric referral center for the Region. The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a fast-paced, full-service ED where you will see everything from trauma cases to reductions. Your commitment to delivering the highest quality patient care is demonstrated with strong clinical, interpersonal and communication skills, along with adaptability and flexibility This 6-month locum opportunity, starting this fall, is now open and consists of 6-7 ED shifts/month available and 1-2 Trauma Team Leader shifts/month. Alternative contract lengths and shift schedules will be considered.     • Doctorate in Medicine
    • Certificant of College of Family Physicians of Canada-Emerg Med (CCFP-EM)
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification (ACLS)
    • Advanced Trauma Life Support Certification (ATLS)
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification (PALS)
    • Emergency experience
    • Eligible for full licensure with CPSBCCoverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association is mandatory
