Clinic Details — Kelowna General Hospital:

Kelowna General Hospital (KGH) is one of two tertiary hospitals within Interior Health and is the region’s main referral center offering a full range of services with approximately 400 beds and over 84,000 ED visits yearly. Kelowna General Hospital is home to the Interior Heart & Surgical Centre (IHSC) which opened in 2015 and is BC’s only cardiac critical care centre outside of Victoria and the Lower Mainland. IHSC is Kelowna General Hospital’s principal surgical site and features; 12 specialized Operating Rooms created for Thoracic, Urology, Neurosurgery, Vascular, Plastics, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Ears Nose and Throat, Orthopedics, General and Trauma surgeries with 2 ORs dedicated to Cardiac Surgery. Our state of the art Centennial Building also recently opened and boasts a total of 360,000 square feet, an expanded emergency and ambulatory care department, modern operating rooms and a rooftop helipad. KGH is also a teaching centre for the Southern Medical Program affiliated with UBC. With the Interior Heart & Surgical Centre and new medical inpatient units in the Centennial Building, dedicated psychiatry units for youth and adults, a modern maternity ward, enhanced laboratory and clinical departments in the new Dr. Walter Anderson Building, and an academic campus that serves as a satellite for the University of British Columbia Medical School, KGH has become one of BC’s leading healthcare centres.

An exciting Medical Leadership opportunity is now available for a collaborative and supportive medical leader for the Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit at the Kelowna General Hospital (KGH). Enjoy career satisfaction in this rewarding administrative role as you actively contribute and participate in KGH wide leadership for Cardiac Services. In this role, you will be responsible for providing administrative services in all aspects of quality, patient safety, planning, operations, utilization management and evaluations of medical and physician services and by participating in defining program requirements. You will report through the Program Medical Director, IH Cardiac Program, Chief of Staff and the Executive Medical Director. The incumbent will also report and be accountable to the Program Director, IH Cardiac Program as well as the Executive Director, Clinical Operations for all operational issues. The Medical Lead of the Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit (CSICU), is a physician administrator and leader who works to achieve a collaborative working relationship between physicians and administration within clinical operations based on the IH vision mission, goals and objectives as they relate to the delivery of CSICU services. Success of the role is dependent upon the provision of leadership and support to medical-staff colleagues and dyad partnerships coordinating and consulting with the Program Medical Director, IH Cardiac Program, Medical Director, Critical Care Network, Department Head, Cardiac Services, Program Director, IH Cardiac Program and Cardiac Program Operational Leaders. Additionally, coordinating and improving collaborative linkages with CCU, the medical ICU, Cardiac Wards and other Health Authority areas. This .075 FTE position requires a commitment of 2.75 hours a week consisting of both fixed (dedicated) and variable (flexible) time to meet the program deliverables.     • Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC)
    • Doctorate in Medicine
    • Full licensure with CPSBC; Coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association is mandatory
