Clinic Details — Kelowna General Hospital:

Kelowna General Hospital (KGH) is one of two tertiary hospitals within Interior Health and is the region’s main referral center offering a full range of services with approximately 400 beds and over 84,000 ED visits yearly. Kelowna General Hospital is home to the Interior Heart & Surgical Centre (IHSC) which opened in 2015 and is BC’s only cardiac critical care centre outside of Victoria and the Lower Mainland. IHSC is Kelowna General Hospital’s principal surgical site and features; 12 specialized Operating Rooms created for Thoracic, Urology, Neurosurgery, Vascular, Plastics, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Ears Nose and Throat, Orthopedics, General and Trauma surgeries with 2 ORs dedicated to Cardiac Surgery. Our state of the art Centennial Building also recently opened and boasts a total of 360,000 square feet, an expanded emergency and ambulatory care department, modern operating rooms and a rooftop helipad. KGH is also a teaching centre for the Southern Medical Program affiliated with UBC. With the Interior Heart & Surgical Centre and new medical inpatient units in the Centennial Building, dedicated psychiatry units for youth and adults, a modern maternity ward, enhanced laboratory and clinical departments in the new Dr. Walter Anderson Building, and an academic campus that serves as a satellite for the University of British Columbia Medical School, KGH has become one of BC’s leading healthcare centres.

Practice Details:

Fantastic opportunity for a Stroke Neurologist to join the rapidly expanding and highly collegial team of talented and dedicated professionals at Kelowna General Hospital’s Stroke NetworkLocated in the city of Kelowna, the KGH stroke team is the main referral center for Interior Health (IH) with a catchment population of approximately 800,000 people. The Stroke Program has achieved some of the best outcomes in Canada and provides residents of the BC Interior with the stroke care they need. We cover the region via a long history of virtual care. This is used to support whole continuum of stroke care.The area that is directly covered by KGH has approximately 1200 stroke/TIAs a year. Our group of 7 is currently made up of two stroke neurologists, movement disorder, headache, neuromuscular, and general neurologists. We also have 5 stroke nurses and have a dedicated stroke unit. If you are comfortable working with all aspects of complex stroke care, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in rural and remote areas, enjoy working in a highly integrated team setting and are excited to further develop our programs and service delivery, this could be the opportunity for you! In this position you will also have the opportunity to discover the rewards of clinical teaching with 3rd and 4th year medical students of the UBC Southern Medical Program, Family Medicine Residents, Emergency Medicine Residents as well visiting residents from other locations. We also engage in multiple stroke trials both nationally and locally and are working on innovative solutions for largely under represented rural and remote populationsFor those interested there are multiple supports for leadership development such as Interior Health’s NAVIG8 Program.     • $350,000 plus
  • Overhead

  • Additional Incentives
    • Relocation Assistance: Applicable for 1.0 FTE positions, $9,000 - $15,000 based on move location (with eligible receipts). Part-time opportunities may be eligible for a pro-rated reimbursement, please discuss with your IH Medical Staff Recruiter *Incentives are subject to change and current rates are confirmed at time of offer*
