Clinic Details — Kelowna General Hospital:

Kelowna General Hospital (KGH) is one of two tertiary hospitals within Interior Health and is the region’s main referral center offering a full range of services with approximately 400 beds and over 84,000 ED visits yearly. Kelowna General Hospital is home to the Interior Heart & Surgical Centre (IHSC) which opened in 2015 and is BC’s only cardiac critical care centre outside of Victoria and the Lower Mainland. IHSC is Kelowna General Hospital’s principal surgical site and features; 12 specialized Operating Rooms created for Thoracic, Urology, Neurosurgery, Vascular, Plastics, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Ears Nose and Throat, Orthopedics, General and Trauma surgeries with 2 ORs dedicated to Cardiac Surgery. Our state of the art Centennial Building also recently opened and boasts a total of 360,000 square feet, an expanded emergency and ambulatory care department, modern operating rooms and a rooftop helipad. KGH is also a teaching centre for the Southern Medical Program affiliated with UBC. With the Interior Heart & Surgical Centre and new medical inpatient units in the Centennial Building, dedicated psychiatry units for youth and adults, a modern maternity ward, enhanced laboratory and clinical departments in the new Dr. Walter Anderson Building, and an academic campus that serves as a satellite for the University of British Columbia Medical School, KGH has become one of BC’s leading healthcare centres.

Practice Details:

The Kelowna General Hospital’s Ophthalmology program is seeking an Ophthalmologist with subspecialty training as an Oculoplastic and Orbital Surgeon to join their team! Come be part of the dynamic group that includes retina, cornea, glaucoma, pediatric/strabismus, and neuro-ophthalmology subspecialists. As the newest member of the team you will be performing surgeries at the Kelowna General Hospital, which includes a compliment of nursing and anesthesia staff to accommodate surgical time. The candidates primary focus will be Oculoplastic and Orbital diseases, but they will have access to cataract OR time and be a part of the general call group. The successful applicant will have access to a day of cataract surgery as well as two days of oculoplastic procedures per week. Main OR access for orbital cases will be available. BC physician income is via MSP billing as well as MOCAP stipend for call services. Apply today to live, work and play where others only vacation! It's better here!

Qualifications:
    • Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC)
    • Doctorate in Medicine
    • Trained as a Oculoplastic Surgeon Experience in Orbital Surgeries Full or Provisional Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC (CPSBC) Coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association is mandatory
Call Schedule:
  • Hours of work: Full Time
  • On call requirements: There are 11 ophthalmologists covering call. Call is one week at a time.
Compensation:
  • Payment Structure
    • Fee for Service
  • Estimated Gross Income
    • Estimated gross income of $600-800K (Generated from private clinic with MSP billing plus hospital operative procedures), plus MOCAP level 2
  • Overhead
    • To be discussed
  • Additional Incentives
    • Relocation Assistance - 9,000 - $15,000 * Relocation Assistance is applicable for 1.0 FTE positions and is based on move location (with eligible receipts). *Incentives are subject to change and current rates are confirmed at time of offer
