Clinic Details — Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital:

The largest diagnostic and acute care hospital in the West Kootenays, the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH) is a 75-bed full service regional hospital serving 80,000 people in the Kootenay Boundary region. KBRH offers core specialist physician services including 24-hour Emergency and Trauma Services, Level 2 Laboratory, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Acute and Obstetrical Care, Orthopedics, Plastics, Urology, Ophthalmology, Psychiatry, Chemotherapy and advanced diagnostic services. KBRH is the regional base for the 24-hour High Acuity Response Team (HART) consisting of dedicated critical care transport nurses, and as required, respiratory therapists, who respond to support rural and remote clinicians in the transport and management of critically ill and injured patients. Transport is supported by BC Ambulance Services (BCAS) for major medical care with transfer to Kelowna that is 313 kilometers from Trail.

Practice Details:

Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital is seeking a physician interested in taking on the leadership role ofPerioperative Medical Director. This role actively contributes to local and IH-wide leadership in all aspects ofquality, patient safety, planning, operations, utilization management and evaluation of surgical services. In this role, you will obtain the necessary knowledge and training to contribute to the management of the surgicalprogram in the hospital through a dyad partnership with operational leadership. You will engage physicians inunderstanding and helping to execute the management plan related to delivery of surgical services. You willfoster collaborative working relationships between physicians and administration based on the IH vision, missionand goals as they relate to the delivery of surgical services. Alongside medical-staff colleagues, nurse managersof the OR, surgical units, and pre-surgical screening units, you will work to optimize access to safe, efficient, andhigh-quality surgical services. This position reports through the site Chief of Staff to the Medical Director Surgical Services on issues of qualityand patient safety, and to the site Health Service Administrator on all operational issues. The incumbent will alsobe accountable to the Medical Director, Surgical Services for Interior Health to ensure alignment of planning andpractice with provincial and IH-wide surgical and anesthesia goals and objectives.

    • Eligible for Fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC)
    • Doctorate in Medicine
    • Eligible for licensure with CPSBC; Coverage withthe Canadian Medical Protective Association ismandatory
