Practice Details:
Exciting opportunities for rural Family Practice Physicians in the Cariboo-Chilcotin region in BC. Come join the collegial Emergency team with 6 full time ER physicians in Williams Lake.
In this rural community, CCFP, CCRP (EM) and FRCP Emergency Physicians are all invited to practice in Williams Lake. Shifts are currently single-coverage 24/7 ER but we are hoping to add a permanent overlap shift. Shifts are 8 hours in sets of 6 on /6 off with 2 mornings, 2 afternoons and 2 nights consecutive which works out to around 14-16 shifts per month. You will see a broad range of interesting cases with high volume and acuity. You are well supported by specialists in Internal Medicine, Ob/Gyn, General Surgery, Pediatrics and Psychiatry. The Cariboo Memorial Hospital (CMH) is part of the rural teaching program for UBC Medical School. The ER will regularly have medical students and residents that you can provide teaching opportunities. Within the medical community, there are many other opportunities if you desire to broad our scope of practice too.

Estimated $328,661 per year based if working full-time (1680 hours per year) or CCFP - $2190, CCFP(EM) - $2443 per 8 hour shift
RSA Incentives
Rural incentives include:
Recruitment bonus: $25,000 (for Full Time, pro-rated for Part Time)
Relocation: $9,000 - $15,000 based on move location.
Fee premium of 12.32%
Annual flat retention: $18,696.48
CME to max of $4,840/year after 4 years
Rural incentives are subject to change and current rates are confirmed at time of offer.
Candidates with a BC or Canada student loan may be eligible for loan forgiveness programs.
Cariboo Memorial Hospital:
Cariboo Memorial is “Under Construction” with planned completion of 2026! The CMH redevelopment project includes and an addition to the existing hospital as well as renovations to the existing facility. The addition will add 25 in-patient beds for a total of 53, a new emergency department, mental-health unit and cancer department. NEW (July’23) Maternity Clinic – dedicated to providing comprehensive care and support to expectant mother in the Cariboo region.
Currently, CMH is a Level 2 Community Hospital in Williams Lake with 28 inpatient beds. CMH hospital offers ER, ICU, OR, med-surg, cardiology unit and obstetrical units. Lab and diagnostic imaging on site; outpatient hemodialysis unit operated on-site. Residential beds are embedded within med-surg unit on second floor of hospital.
Deni House is adjacent to CMH, embodies a resident centered philosophy designed to help people function at their highest level and provide the best quality of life. Deni House has 13 private and 5 3-bed rooms. Nine of the beds are designated as short stay including 2 palliative beds, and ALCP’s (2beds).
