lead local and regional services for child and youth psychiatry in Cranbrook, B.C.!

You will be joining a small team of adult psychiatrists and a dedicated group of
pediatricians providing service to East Kootenay Regional Hospital. The
pediatrics department provides support for child and youth psychiatry inpatient
needs as EKRH does not have dedicated child psychiatry inpatient beds. The
pediatricians in Cranbrook look forward to having a dedicated child psychiatrist
working with them in a collaborative fashion. You would provide consultation
services to the acute site as well as maintain a community based practice. Our
community child and youth mental health programs feature individual
counselling, group counselling, DBT program and integrated psychiatric services.
Our aboriginal partners in the Ktunaxa Nation have a dedicated mental health
team supporting their youth.
Community work would involve supporting family physicians, pediatricians, and
community partners as well as child and youth mental health services. A collaborative
program exists to serve the needs of youth in transition to adulthood. Subspecialty areas include eating disorders and substance use disorders. Cranbrook is one of the latest of seven BC cities to be privileged to have a Foundry Centre in the community. Foundry is a province wide initiative that offers young people ages 12-24 drop-in Community health and wellness resources and MH services.
In this position you will have an opportunity to enjoy a variety of roles as we build on
existing child and youth mental health services and shape the future of child and
youth psychiatry expanding on new initiatives within Interior Health and the East Kootenay with residential child and youth detox beds, Intensive Case Management, Early
Psychosis Intervention and Substance Use Connections, Ktunaxa Nation child
and youth mental health and substance use initiatives, and the Foundry opportunities.
This work will encompass a continuum of care across both acute and community
services, with an opportunity to develop and expand team care and become part
of a productive and healthy work environment.
In addition to child and youth/adolescent psychiatry, you will assist in providing
support to the EK adult psychiatry team participating in on-call services to Cranbrook
and the East Kootenay Region of Interior Health. In this region emergency child
and youth psychiatry needs are currently covered by the adult psychiatry team and the
EKRH Emergency Department.
EKRH is affiliated with UBC Faculty of Medicine Southern Medical Program and
as such, you will have the opportunity to enjoy teaching medical students.
Interior Health offers training and support for those interested in expanding roles into
Medical Administration with formal leadership training programs.

Estimated Gross Income
$300,000-$500,000, plus MOCAP level 2
RSA Incentives
Additional Rural Incentives include: Rural CME: Up to 2 years $600; In 3rd & 4th year $3,600; after 4 years $6,600 Rural incentives are subject to change and current rates are confirmed at time of offer. Candidates with a BC or Canada student loan may be eligible for loan forgiveness programs.
Relocation funding available: $9,000-$15,000 based on move location
East Kootenay Regional Hospital:
The East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook is an 80 bed regional referral centre, serving a catchment area of approximately 82,000 people in the East Kootenay Area. This facility offers 24/7 Emergency services with 16 monitored beds, a modern 6 bed ICU, and supported by a comprehensive Medical Imaging program. The East Kootenay Regional Hospital is currently under construction to support a new SPECT CT that will be ready for use in Fall of 2022.
A full range of medical and surgical services is offered including Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Pathology, Psychiatry, Paediatrics, Anesthesia, Radiology, Urology and Family Practice inpatient care service.
