Fantastic opportunity for a Cardiac Electrophysiologist to join the highly collegial team of talented and dedicated professionals developing our new EP program at Kelowna General Hospital’s Interior Heart & Surgical Centre.
Located in the city of Kelowna, the Interior Heart & Surgical Centre is the main referral center for Interior Health (IH) with a catchment population of approximately one million people. The Cardiac Services program provides residents of the BC Interior with the cardiac care they need, right here in the heart of the Okanagan Valley and offers the whole spectrum of cardiac surgical services short of transplantation. Currently our group consists of 2 Electrophysiologists, 4 Interventionists, 11 General Cardiologists, 5 Cardiac Surgeons and 2 Cardiac Surgical Assistants, 8 Cardiac Anaesthetists and 6 Nurse Practitioners. KGH has a 20 bed Cardiac Medical Unit, an 8 bed Coronary Intensive Care Unit (CICU), a 6 bed Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit (CSICU) and a 16-bed Cardiac Surgery Inpatient (CSIP) ward. Heart transplants and pediatric (child) cardiac surgeries are not performed at KGH. The Cardiac Program is comprised of more than 200 medical and clinical staff, including perfusionists, clinical nursing staff, anaesthesia assistants and support staff.
In this position you will provide knowledge and expertise, assisting the EP lead in program development and delivery of cardiac EP services within IH, working in a forum of interdisciplinary collaboration as well as with other provincial health authorities, Cardiac Services BC & the BC Ministry of Health. EP services for IH at KGH will include patient consultations, device implantation and follow up and the full spectrum of ablative services in a new state-of-the-art EP lab. Kelowna General Hospital (KGH) is one of two tertiary hospitals within Interior Health and is the region’s main referral centre offering a full range of services with approximately 400 beds and over 84,000 ED visits yearly. Kelowna General Hospital is home to the Interior Heart & Surgical Centre (IHSC) which opened in 2015 and is BC’s only cardiac critical care centre outside of Victoria and the Lower Mainland. IHSC is Kelowna General Hospital’s principal surgical site and features 12 specialized Operating Rooms created for Thoracic, Urology, Neurosurgery, Vascular, Plastics, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Ears Nose and Throat, Orthopedics, General and Trauma surgeries with 2 ORs dedicated to Cardiac Surgery. Our state of the art Centennial Building boasts a total of 360,000 square feet, an expanded emergency and ambulatory care department, new medical inpatient units, modern operating rooms and a rooftop helipad. Within the Interior Heart & Surgical Centre, KGH has a modern maternity ward and adjacent Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. KGH has a dedicated pediatric ward, as well as, adolescent and adult psychiatry units. Enhanced laboratory and clinical departments are found in the new Dr. Walter Anderson Building. KGH is also a teaching centre for the Southern Medical Program affiliated with UBC, and has an academic campus that serves as a satellite for the University of British Columbia Medical School.
