Program Medical Director, Renal Services :

Exciting new Medical Leadership opportunity at Interior Health for a Program Medical Director, Renal Services.
This role is instrumental in the provision of administrative and clinical leadership for an IH wide Renal Services across the Health Authority. The Program Medical Director will work in a dyad relationship with the Program Director, from a systems and patient centered perspective, providing strategic direction and medical leadership to achieve quality performance and IH, BC Renal (BCR), BC Transplant (BCT) and MOH strategic priorities.

The Program Medical Director, Renal Services reports to the Vice President, North, Clinical Operations and works in a dyad relationship with the Program Director of Renal & Transplant Services.

Position Summary
The Program Medical Director will work in a dyad relationship with the Program Director to support the integration, standardization, and consolidation (where appropriate) of services within the Program working to support strategic initiatives and meet MOH, BCR, BCT, and IH targets and deliverables. This will include supporting and advancing clinical practice regionally (across IH) to meet standards, prioritizing renal services quality initiatives across IH and aligning renal initiatives, utilizing data resources, to support achievement of targets and deliverables. Success of the role is dependent upon the provision of leadership and support to physicians as well as engagement of other practitioners, Operational Leaders, and provincial partners. The Program Medical Director will be expected to work in a dyad relationship with the Program Director to create an inclusive approach to the development, implementation and monitoring of multi-site delivered Renal Services and to liaise between the ministry of health, BC Renal, BC Transplant, renal program and Clinical Operations teams, physician committees and physicians in order to represent physician viewpoints and facilitate open communication.

Key Responsibilities:

• Strategic Leadership:
• Provide leadership to enhance renal care quality and meet strategic priorities from IH, BC Renal, BC Transplant, and the Ministry of Health.
• Collaborate with physicians, healthcare professionals, and committees to improve patient safety and outcomes.
• Support physician governance and engagement within IH.
Clinical Services:

• Promote high clinical care standards and provide guidance to various medical leaders.
• Implement quality assurance and improvement activities.
• Ensure compliance with Accreditation Canada guidelines.
• Foster a supportive environment for renal care research projects.
Collaboration:

• Create a collaborative, patient-focused environment for renal care across the region.
• Participate in leadership discussions, provincial committees, and working groups.
• Engage in strategy development and implementation with VP portfolios.
• Patient Safety and Quality:
• Oversee implementation of patient safety and quality activities.
• Monitor compliance with treatment guidelines and protocols.
• Investigate renal-related inquiries and ensure quality care processes are maintained.
• Leadership:
• Provide medical input into management and participate in monitoring IH Renal Program performance.
• Develop and implement evidence-based renal and transplant policies.
• Support regional educational activities and maintain effective relationships with medical staff.
• Represent the program at provincial and national forums.

Qualifications:
  • Doctorate in Medicine
  • Eligible for licensure with CPSBC
  • Coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association is mandatory
  • Medical leadership training and/or experience
Call Schedule:

Hours of work: 7.5 hours per day, 2 day per week
