Enjoy career satisfaction in this rewarding administrative role as you provide leadership to the department by supporting operational planning and promoting high quality standards of clinical care through clinical program development and administration.

As the Medical Director Anesthesia at KGH, you will be responsible for the Department of Anesthesia’s clinical program development and administration, support the KGH Department Head of Anesthesia in recruitment and physician resource planning as well as other leadership activities. You will report through the Chief of Staff, KGH to the Executive Medical Director IH South and Transport. In addition, you will provide input to both the Clinical Operational Director for the Operating Room as well as the KGH Perioperative Medical Director.

The Medical Director, Anesthesia is a physician leader who works to achieve a collaborative working relationship between physicians and leaders within clinical operations based on the IH vision, mission and goals as they relate to the delivery of anesthesia services. Success of the role is dependent upon the provision of leadership and support to medical-staff colleagues as well as engagement and partnerships with Clinical Operational Directors, and Clinical Operational Managers of the Operating Room (OR), acute care units and pre-surgical screening units to optimize access to safe, efficient, high-quality surgical services and post-OR anesthetic care. Collaborations and liaisons along with the multiple lines of responsibility will require demonstration of leadership characteristics in line with the LEADs leadership framework and is expected to uphold the “Standards of Conduct of Interior Health for Employees” at all times.

This .15 FTE position requires fixed (dedicated) and variable (flexible) time to meet specific deliverables based on the requirements for site surgical services and is open to members of the Department of Anesthesiology at the Kelowna General Hospital.

Qualifications:
  • Eligible for licensure with CPSBC
  • Doctorate in Medicine
  • Coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association is mandatory
  • Medical leadership training and/or experience

Kelowna General Hospital:

Kelowna General Hospital (KGH) is one of two tertiary hospitals within Interior Health and is the region’s main referral centre offering a full range of services with approximately 400 beds and over 84,000 ED visits yearly. Kelowna General Hospital is home to the Interior Heart & Surgical Centre (IHSC) which opened in 2015 and is BC’s only cardiac critical care centre outside of Victoria and the Lower Mainland. IHSC is Kelowna General Hospital’s principal surgical site and features 12 specialized Operating Rooms created for Thoracic, Urology, Neurosurgery, Vascular, Plastics, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Ears Nose and Throat, Orthopedics, General and Trauma surgeries with 2 ORs dedicated to Cardiac Surgery. KGH has a dedicated pediatric ward, as well as, adolescent and adult psychiatry units. Enhanced laboratory and clinical departments are found in the new Dr. Walter Anderson Building. KGH is also a teaching centre for the Southern Medical Program affiliated with UBC, and has an academic campus that serves as a satellite for the University of British Columbia Medical School. KGH has become one of BC’s leading healthcare centres.
