Practice Details:
The Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital seeks a skilled surgeon to join our team.
As the region's primary provider of comprehensive plastic, reconstructive, and hand surgery services, we offer a unique opportunity to join an established practice. You’ll engage with a diverse and loyal patient base, all with the support of our skilled, compassionate team across both office and hospital settings.
Your practice will encompass a wide range of reconstructive procedures. Hand and wrist surgery will address symptoms of pain, numbness, and decreased function in the upper limb. Our specialty peripheral nerve surgery program will utilize your skills to treat pain or numbness in both upper and lower limbs, where nerves are compressed or injured outside of the spinal cord. You'll strive to restore normal appearance and function after events like trauma, burns, infection, cancer, disease, or birth defects.
You'll work alongside dedicated healthcare professionals to deliver quality care for both adults and children. Our practice collaborates closely with skilled therapists at Black Bird Physiotherapy in Nelson for patient rehabilitation. You'll also have the opportunity to extend your expertise to surrounding communities through regular outreach services.
You’ll have the opportunity for academic affiliation and the chance to teach medical students and residents through the UBC Okanagan Medical Program, allowing you to engage in education while advancing your professional development.

Your surgical schedule will include main operating room procedures on Mondays, local anesthetic procedures and cast clinics on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and office clinics on Wednesday mornings.
On call requirements:
With a 1:3 to 1:5 rotation, you'll have plenty of time to relax and reset in between.
Compensation:
Estimated Gross Income
As a plastic surgeon in Trail, you'll earn between $500,000-$600,000, thanks to the fee-for-service model and MOCAP level 2.
RSA Incentives
Recruitment incentive: $15,000, prorated for physicians working less than full time
Relocation: $9,000 if moving within BC, $12,000 within Canada, and $15,000 from outside Canada
Fee premium: 11.48%
Annual retention fee: $17,790
RCME funding: $600 for up to 2 years in Trail, $3,600 during your 3rd and 4th year, and $6,600 after 4 years, in addition to the Doctors of BC CME funds.
The above numbers are based on a full-time position and may be prorated for physicians working less than full time. Rural incentives are subject to change and current rates are confirmed at the time of offer.
